Sometimes identity theft can be difficult to reverse and may lead consumers to no alternative but to file bankruptcy. Chapter 7 bankruptcy, if you meet certain qualifications, can eliminate nearly all of your debt. You can then start to rebuild your credit after your debts are discharged. In most cases it takes at least 7 years to begin to recover your credit after a bankruptcy.
